Having walked through the doors of The Glasgow School of Art many years ago, Alex continues to take his inspiration from Pop Art and Punk through to 80's subculture.
Glasgow born, London based, Alex now specialises in music themed art with a tad of Pop Art works thrown in for good measure.
Alex's work spans across a number of mediums from digital prints to original works on wood typically using acrylic and enamel paints to achieve the desired outcome.
With an attention to detail always taking priority, his work is definitely worthy of closer inspection.
'Explosions'
A modern take on the classic Roy Lichtenstein Pop Art works. Hand cut and hand painted originals, enamel on wood, mounted onto a painted wooden circular base.
The prints have been printed with a black finish to make the explosions pop!
'Logos'
Hand cut and hand painted originals, enamel on wood.
The prints have been photographed to show a shadow.
'Lyrics'
Taking the colours that he sees from the original 7" single, typically from the picture sleeve, sometimes the label or even in desperate times an import!, blending those colours onto a canvas then choosing lyrics from the song that 'say something' & hand painting the text to create finished artwork.
'Labels'
Sourcing the labels primarily from his extensive collection of vinyl, using the original label image or 'arty' label as a standard, 'cleaning' each individual label then laying out the design to desired fashion.
'In Memoriam'
Inspired by Andy Warhol's 'Joseph Beuys in Memoriam', Alex's series pays tribute to musicians and presenters who have all sadly passed but have left a lasting impact on him.
